Protect Yourself Against Phishing Phone Calls
We have been made aware of a growing fraud trend involving phishing phone calls. Scammers are calling cardholders, pretending to be an employee of the cardholder's bank or credit union, and notifying the cardholder of fraudulent activity on their card. The scammers proceed to verify the full card number, expiration date and CVV (3 digit number on the back of the card), and tell the cardholder they will receive a new card in the mail. The scammers also prompt the cardholder to enter their old PIN into the phone, followed by a new PIN.
Please be aware that your actual fraud call center will NOT request information such as your Social Security Number, PIN, or CVV, and will NOT ask for your full card number over the phone. If you are contacted by someone about fraudulent activity on a card you hold and doubt the legitimacy of the call, please reach out to your financial institution or call the number on the back of your card to connect directly with the fraud call center.
